Valor. Duty. Mission.
The horrific sounds, smells and sensations of jungle warfare raged for hours in the remote Vietnamese jungle. The deafening percussions of M-60 and .50 caliber machine guns. The whoosh and blast of rocket-propelled grenades. The chest-flattening concussions of the Sheridan tank guns. The choking diesel exhaust fumes shrouding the battlefield. The jagged, shrapnel-inflicted lacerations. And the yelling – soldiers constantly shouting and radioing to each other during a desperate assault against a fortified bunker complex defended by a resolute foe. This was a battle whose intensity was superseded only by the courage and valor of a small band of cavalry troopers on a mission: To rescue 100 doomed American infantrymen and to survive the fearsome day themselves. This is the story of Alpha Troop, 11th Cavalry, and the men who overcame their own exhaustion and heartbreaking casualties to save a company of fellow soldiers hopelessly pinned down by the North Vietnamese Army.
